[Elantra GT] manual transmission on 2006 elantra gt

Another thing that can help driveability, especially with a manual
transmission Elantra: Emissions can be reduced if the rpms are not allowed
to drop suddenly (for instance when changing gears). Hyundai uses the Idle
Air Controller on the Elantra to cause the revs to "hang" a bit when you let
off the gas. I think this may be the reason they put the restrictor in the
clutch slave cylinder; it was probably added to put a little delay into the
system since they knew the rpms would be held up by the IAC.

Anyway, to make a short story long, there is a simple mod that can be done
to the IAC; a restrictor plate can be made and added to the mounting of the
IAC to limit the IAC's response, therefore not allowing it to hold the revs
up when you let off the gas.

Anyway, here is a link to the thread I first read about this on
Kia-Forums.com (Kia Spectra and the Elantra have the same engine):

And here is a pic of where the IAC is on my Elantra (note the plastic engine
cover is already removed):

Happy modding!

There is no "perfect", "ideal" or "magic" combination of revs and clutch
pressure, it's all a matter of feel. It will vary with your speed, the
terrain (level, up or downhill start) and how rapidly you're
accelerating. It sounds like you just need more practice to develop the
right touch. If you're jerking the car, it generally means that you're
letting the clutch out too fast.

There's also one thing about the Elantra clutch that can make driving it
harder: there's a small valve in the slave cylinder that restricts the
fluid flow when the clutch is released. While the intent of it is to
help prevent stalling the car if the clutch is released too fast, what
it ultimately does is create a very inconsistent feel and inconsistent
engagement. People who are experienced manual transmission drivers
generally hate this "feature". Fortunately, it's easy to remove and the
improvement in clutch feel without it is pretty dramatic. Go to the
Elantra Club site (http://elantraclub.com/) and look in the DIY section
for instructions on performing a "clutchvalvectomy".
