Here are some ideas for you:
- If you reinstall Windows over the existing installation, there's a
good chance that it will get the sytem working again, allowing you to at
least back up your data.
- If it still won't boot properly, try booting into Safe Mode by holding
down the F5 key during the boot.
- If that doesn't work, you can try booting to the Last Known Good
Configuration from the same menu.
- There are free utilities to help recover data from a system. Knoppix
is a good one, if you can download it on someone else's system and burn
a bootable CD.
- Worst case, if you format the hard drive and reinstall the operating
system, you should be able to resurrect the machine, but you'll lose
everything that's on it. Even if you're still going to buy a new one, it
never hurts to have a backup system, even if all you use it for is
backing up your new hard drive.
