I just got an '05 GT and haven't noticed this problem.
Back in the day a friend had a '77 Celica GT Liftback with a very
light throttle action. It made for some annoying bucking/lurching on the 1-2
shift, and I suppose there could be just a little bit of that on the '02 GT I
just traded.
I would imagine if it were a major nuisance you could adjust the tension on
the throttle return spring, and there might also be a drag adjustment for
the throttle cable as well. However, I believe the is also a way to adjust the position
of the accelerator (this particular adjustment ought to be easy to find ... it'll be a
threaded part on the passenger cabin side of the firewall, near the top of the
accelerator linkage) ... and it may be that the *action* won't be such an issue
once the *position* is the way you want it.
