Seems my answer to Frank did not get through. So here it is a second time:

The particular product I used was Excel EPM-6 which I purchased at Home Depot. It is a liquid elastic polymer used mainly for roofs.

  PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
EPM-6 is a ready to use, protective roof and deck coating for use on dry surfaces. It is a thick, viscous liquid that is brush
or roller applied and forms a completely waterproof rubber barrier.

I brushed on multiple coats most everywhere I could in the hatch area for three reasons.

1. Waterproofing (to make doubly sure a water leak repaired by the dealer did not recur).
2. Sound deadening without the stink (on top of which I may add Dynamat).
3. Protecting the paint (it dries to a tough coat).

For what it's worth, it has been on for close to two years and I am satisfied with the results.

I had tested it on a piece of sheetmetal beforehand and I would recommend anyone else do the same.

  Any examples? :-)
