There *is* a hard connection, you sign a little chit that basically sez they replace
your tires if they're below x tread depth provided you've had all your skedded servicing
done there. Obviously, they're more expensive and more hassle to go to for oil changes, etc. 
than the local franchise operation. Since oil changes are skedded at 7500 and my practice is to
do them at 3750, I can do half my oil changes somewhere else.
