A very important consideration indeed, especially when as you say this is 
your only car. Congratulations! Another wise purchase.  :-)

Likely both. For sure this is a continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) 
engine with an ultra low emissions value (ULEV) so it is more efficient from 
the outset. However, on the other hand, automatics tend to give slightly 
worse mileage than manuals 
(http://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicle/elantra/specs/specs.aspx) so I would have 
thought that these two factors would have "cancelled each other out", so 
there could be something else at work here. For instance driving style and 
the possibility that you might be driving this new car slower and smoother 
(as one is supposed to during the "not a break in period") .... who knows.

There should not be a connection. If they decide to give you free tires, 
then that should be that. The warranty would not be affected provided you 
get your scheduled maintenance done by a licenced technician. That is my 
take on it, anyway.
