[Elantra GT] Engine light

Recently bought gas and the guy never tightened the cap. They still pump 
your gas in Jersey. As a result my check engine light came on and the first 
thing I did was check to see if the gas cap was on tight. It was barely 
turned one click. Now that was last week and the light is still on. What 
must I do to dim the light?
Be patient and it will just go out on it's own or do I have to take it to 
the dealers?
